Another Illegal Structure

West Cove is one of these structures build illegal. It was clear from the beginning that this project was illegal. However, powerfull people sometimes just don’t care. The rich, wellconnected owner – newspapers back in those days reported that even Manny Pacquiao the famous boxer idol was a investor in this project as well – build reckless on coralformations and even cemented a tiny beach. His concrete walles destroyed most of the coral life under the water because the environment had changed completely. This guy just didn’t care, because of his connections! Now he complaints and sees himself harassed and as victim. No pity!

Bulabog Beach after Closure

Saturday, 28th of April 2018

Bulabog beach is closed for all activities. Kite schools at the north part are abandoned or already demolished. The preworks (clearing the area) for the future road are already ongoing. Clean up of the beach has also started.

Here the new road will stretch alongside Bulabog beach.

Diamond Building Bulabog
The Diamond Water Sports compound. This ugly building at Bulabog Beach, with its massive concrete sea walls should have been never allowed in the first place. It is sad, that companies like that, who make a hell of money with tourists, show no sense for the beauty of the island and the importance of an intact nature! Short-sighted, greedy business owners contributed a lot to the dilemma, this island is in now. This is true as well for the big hotel companies on the White Beach.  And of course, this is not isolated on the Philippines, or on this island. This is true for a kind of human behaviour that is destroying this planet. They bite the hand that feeds ’em!

So, today it actually happened. The island is closed. I think lots of Filipinos couldn’t believe this would happen. Some may have hoped to the bitter end, when at least they would witness with their own eys: there are no tourist anymore!

Empty, vast, White Beach
No Tourist anymore. Most of the employees will be jobless from now on!

This is how Boracay ‘City’ looks like inside. There is nothing nice. You get poisoned by exhaust gas pollution, if you walk or drive the main road. There are no proper sidewalks anyway! There was never the will or the desire to make it nice or clean or do proper sewer or do something for the infrastructure to meet the mass tourism they have always propagandized! That’s mainly because the main interests of all the Maiors and authorities, was to enrich themselfes and their clans! They pretended to take care however they gave a shit about that island. But even the big Hotel Groups, like Hennan, Regency, Astoria Current etc., who had some influence because they are big, were not interested in infrastructure. The only thing they cared about, was to fill up their hotels and build one new huge structure after the other never asking for nicer surroundings outside of their properties. Let alone give nature some space! The new Chinese Hotels are the worst exampels of that. Astoria Current for example, is one huge concrete structure! Sadly, it was and is always about quantity and never about quality, in terms of open, green spaces.

Demolition along the Main Road has already begun.
Demolition teams have arrived.

This day number one. Today people are like paralysed. But as time will go on, the situation will become more desperate.

Final Days of Boracay…

Tomorrow the island will be closed.

Already today a ghostly atmosphere lies over this island as most tourists left yesterday. No Chinese or Korenan groups anymore (those who do no business here will not miss ’em anyway!) Hotels and restaurants prepare for the 6 month closure. Resorts secure their property with surveillance cameras and barbwire. Staff sits around not knowing what to do. It will get worse!

Military helicopter pass in low-level flight the White Beach.

Bell UH1 (Huey)
Today Military Helicopter flew so close and low to the beach that one could feel the vibrations. Almost a feeling like in a war zone!
The last paraw. Still yesterday one could not walk here because it was full of parked sailing-boats, serving far to few Chinese and Koreans.
Emptiness on the beach path alongside these Chinese Hotels at Station 3, where usually big Chinese and Korean groups swarm.
